Editorial inbreeding policy

Editorial  inbreeding Policy – Revista Alergia México

Revista Alergia México adheres to international standards of editorial integrity and transparency to ensure the independence of the peer-review process and maintain the scientific credibility of the journal.

Editorial inbreeding refers to the publication of articles authored by individuals closely affiliated with the journal—such as members of the editorial board or individuals from the same sponsoring institution or professional society .

To prevent bias and uphold editorial independence, Revista Alergia México establishes the following guidelines:

  1. Editorial Board Publications
Members of the editorial board may exceptionally submit original articles for consideration. However, the total number of articles authored by editorial board members or affiliated institutional authors shall not exceed 20% of the journal’s annual publications.

  2. Independent Handling
Manuscripts submitted by editorial board members will be assigned to an independent editor not involved as an author or co-author. This editor will handle the full editorial process, including:

    • Selection of external peer reviewers

    • Communication of reviewer comments

    • Final editorial recommendations

  3. Peer Review Process
All manuscripts—regardless of authorship—are subject to the same rigorous peer review standards, ensuring fairness and scientific integrity throughout.

  4. Conflict of Interest Disclosure
Authors must disclose in the manuscript’s "Conflicts of Interest" section any editorial affiliation with the journal, even if they were not involved in the editorial handling of the submission.

By implementing this policy, Revista Alergia México ensures transparency, mitigates potential biases, and maintains the trust of its readers, authors, and reviewers in accordance with guidelines from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE).
